CHALLENGE
Design a choose-your-own-adventure style website, allowing viewers to select video performances to watch as they move through the portal
WEBSITE
Fire Flowers and a Time Machine was a collection of live, outdoor performances including monologues, poetry, dance, and ritual.
For the virtual iteration of this project, I was asked to design a website where viewers could watch the Fire Flowers performance recordings within a linear structure that honored the original narrative of the live experience. Storytelling was integral to both the user experience and the core concept of Fire Flowers and a Time Machine.
To establish this structure, groups of videos were organized into stages, allowing viewers to move through each stage and select one among a few video options (effectively replicating the programming of the live performances). See the Courtyard stage below as an example.

DESIGN
A dark palette was chosen to immerse the viewer in the portal and emulate the feeling of the evening performances: black, pink, charcoal, orange. An unintrusive sans-serif was chosen to guide viewers through each stage.
Photos taken at the live performances of Fire Flowers and a Time Machine were used as thumbnails for each video performance, and banners for each stage.
