Dreamscape Archives was a collaborative, multimedia retelling of the legacy of Citrine Freedmen, a fictional revolutionary who touches the lives of future generations.
The project was intended to be a public art exhibition, but evolved into a virtual exhibition during Covid-19.
SITE DETAILS
CHALLENGE
Design an interactive website where viewers could read, listen and watch the story of Citrine Freedmen and her descendants
WEBSITE
With the main goal of the project being to tell a chronological story, pages were constructed with navigation appearing at the bottom of each page; no other navigation was included.
Photos of paintings, sculptures and drawings along with short videos, visually supported the narrative. To encourage viewers to reflect on the story's themes, a form with prompts was featured at the end of the story for viewers to write about their experiences.
DESIGN
Intergenerational storytelling were key motifs of Dreamscape Archives. To compliment these motifs with design, elements inspired by letter-writing and archiving were combined. Pages were formatted like letters with audio embeds to give voices to multiple characters and match the narrative writing style.
I emphasized key moments in the narrative through weight, color and movement in the text. For the typography: a light sans-serif for the body text and a matching heavy sans-serif for titling. An earthy palette was chosen: sepia, off-white, maroon, and blue-grey.
